Do I Need A Dental Crown?

Crowns are recommended for patients with some of the following dental concerns:

  • cracked or broken teeth
  • damaged fillings
  • missing one or more teeth
  • restore worn down teeth
  • protect teeth from further damage
  • cover a dental implant
  • restore tooth after root canal therapy
  • match the appearance of natural teeth
  • attach to a bridge
  • reinforce the strength of healthy adult teeth

Made from resilient porcelain or ceramic, crowns are strong and color matched with existing teeth to both look and feel natural. Other materials like gold, metal alloys and some acrylic materials may also be used to provide additional support for stronger back teeth and molars.

Do I Need a Bridge?

When you’ve lost one or more teeth your remaining teeth may shift out of place and disrupt the alignment of your smile. When this happens everything from the way you normally chew or speak becomes difficult. Simple routines such as cleaning your teeth can feel like a daily challenge and your risks of developing gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders increase.

Dental bridges restore the gaps between existing teeth after one or more teeth are lost. Comprised of one or more artificial teeth (pontics) and held in place using two dental crowns (abutments) a dental bridge can effectively support the health and strength of existing teeth and maintain a smile’s natural alignment.

What Can I Expect?

At your first appointment Dr. Bloom carefully reviews your medical history and works with you to create a custom treatment plan. An impression is made of your tooth or teeth and the affected area is prepared for the placement of a dental crown. In matters where a tooth has just undergone a root canal treatment or otherwise needs added support beyond a filling, a dental crown can be placed to easily protect the structure of the tooth. As your custom crown or bridge is designed a temporary crown can be placed over the affected tooth to protect it between appointments.

When you come in for your next appointment your crown or bridge can be placed after a careful examination to ensure its proper fit and feel. In a short time after treatment your crown will look, feel, and function just like any healthy adult tooth!

How Long do Crowns and Bridges Last?

With regular checkups, cleanings and practicing good dental hygeine at home crowns and bridges can last a lifetime. To see how a dental crown or bridge can enhance your smile and quality of life speak with our team at Bloom Family Dental by calling 920-457-0888 to make an appointment.

“I was having severe tooth pain and I sent out 5-6 emails to area dentists asking when they could see me and Bloom Family Dental was the only office that bothered getting back to me and so promptly! Had a consultation with Dr. Bloom today and he was very professional. The other staff members that assisted me – Stacey and Samantha – were so friendly and made my visit enjoyable. I’ll definitely be returning. Thank you!” –Megan F
